4 post lifts were used as industry-standard equipment before the invention of 2 post lifts, but the 2 post lift’s usability and space-saving quality soon meant it outperformed the 4 post lift. Garages can wrongly presume that 2 post lifts are ideal for wheel alignment checks and adjustments, but correct wheel alignment must be performed with the full weight of the vehicle on its suspension (as it would be in its natural state), not with the wheels dangling.
